Yannick Bolasie, the former DR Congo winger, has raised serious concerns about FIFA's consistency after the governing body suspended Folarin Balogun's one-game ban, allowing the United States striker to feature in his country's FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 clash against Belgium.
Bolasie took to his X account to question whether such leniency would ever be extended to an African tournament. He argued that had a comparable decision been taken during the Africa Cup of Nations, the reaction from the media and football authorities would have been swift and severe.
