La Linea de la Concepcion is a coastal town of roughly 65,000 people in the province of Cadiz, near the Gibraltar border. Both DR Congo and Chile had selected the venue as part of their preparations for the World Cup.
Players isolated, support staff flagged
DR Congo are currently based in Belgium, having scrapped a pre-tournament training camp in Kinshasa after an Ebola outbreak emerged in the east of the country. While none of the squad's players — all of whom are based at clubs outside DR Congo — are reported to have recently returned to their homeland, some support staff and fans have made the journey from there.
The team are due to face Denmark in a friendly in Liege on Wednesday, with the Spain fixture now off the calendar entirely.
US entry restrictions in force
The United States' public health agency has introduced an entry ban on non-American nationals who have been in DR Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan within the 21 days prior to arrival. The restriction is a direct response to the Ebola outbreak.
The strain driving the current outbreak has been identified as Bundibugyo, a rare species of Ebola for which no approved vaccine currently exists. The World Health Organisation has warned that developing a jab could take up to nine months.
DR Congo's World Cup campaign
DR Congo have qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1974 and plan to base themselves in Houston during the tournament. They open their Group K campaign on 17 June against Portugal in Houston, before travelling to Guadalajara, Mexico, to face Colombia. Their final group game is against Uzbekistan in Atlanta.
