"I don't know how much truth there is in that," Smith told Gooners News. "When Osimhen went from Napoli to Galatasaray, I think most people probably thought, oh, his chance to go to the Premier League may be over there. But he can score goals."
Smith added: "I think Arsenal do need a centre forward; it's getting the right one, so that'll be an interesting one to see how it develops, if it does develop."
Record-breaking form at Galatasaray
Far from fading after his move from Napoli, Osimhen has thrived in Istanbul. He became the fastest player in Galatasaray's history to reach 50 goals for the club, achieving the milestone in just 59 matches, and played a central role in firing them to the Süper Lig title.
The Nigerian international has carried that momentum into the 2026/27 season, scoring decisive braces and late goals to rescue points in the early stages of the new campaign — including strong performances against Çorum FK and Çaykur Rizespor.
Galatasaray have shown no willingness to sell, rejecting substantial bids — including a mega-money offer from Al-Hilal — to keep Osimhen at the heart of their attack in Istanbul.
