Simeone Reaffirms Atletico Madrid Commitment Despite Future Ambitions in Italy

Diego Simeone has made clear he has no intention of walking away from Atletico Madrid, with the Argentine manager's contract keeping him at the club until 2027.

Speculation around his future has surfaced periodically, particularly following a difficult campaign that ended with Atletico finishing third in La Liga. Yet Simeone has remained resolute, insisting his focus is on restoring the club to the summit of Spanish football and competing for major honours once again.

"If I'm being honest, I'm thinking about next season. I'm thinking about myself. I will continue, but I'm thinking about how to approach a new season,"
he said.

While Simeone is firmly committed to Atletico for now, he has previously acknowledged a personal ambition to manage in Italy at some point in his career — specifically at Inter Milan or Lazio, two clubs where he played during his time in Serie A. However, he has made it clear that such a move is not on the horizon.

A legacy already written in Madrid

Since taking charge of Atletico Madrid, Simeone has built one of the most decorated managerial records in Spanish football. Under his stewardship, the club has claimed two La Liga titles and two UEFA Europa League trophies, alongside a host of other honours — a transformation that has cemented his status as one of the game's elite coaches.

With his sights firmly set on the upcoming season, Simeone appears determined to add to that legacy rather than bring his Atletico chapter to a close.
