Three of Nigerian football's most recognisable clubs — Enyimba, Rivers United, and Bendel Insurance — were all eliminated from the President Federation Cup on Saturday, each falling at the Round of 16 stage.

Enyimba stunned by Ikorodu City on penalties

At the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Enyimba suffered a dramatic exit after losing 5-4 on penalties to Ikorodu City. The match had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Jacob Jonathan opening the scoring for the People's Elephant in the 25th minute before Aderemi Adeoye levelled for Ikorodu City eight minutes from time.

In the shootout, Ikorodu City converted all five of their kicks while Enyimba managed only four, ending the Aba club's hopes of progressing. The Oga Boys will next face Barau FC in the quarter-finals — a side that booked their own place in the last eight with a 2-1 victory over Sunshine Stars U-19.

Rivers United edged out in Awka

In a tense encounter played in Awka, Nasarawa United eliminated Rivers United 5-3 on penalties after the two sides could not be separated in regulation time, drawing 2-2. Nasarawa United will now meet Plateau United in the quarter-finals.

Plateau United sealed their own spot in the next round thanks to a 2-1 win over FC Basira, with Paul Magit and Dawa Victor both getting on the scoresheet.

Bendel Insurance fall to Elkanemi Warriors in shootout

Bendel Insurance also bowed out on penalties, losing 8-7 in a dramatic shootout against Elkanemi Warriors after a 3-3 draw in normal time. Elkanemi Warriors will face Sokoto United in the quarter-finals — Sokoto having won their Round of 16 tie 2-0 against Adamawa United.

Other results and quarter-final fixtures

Wikki Tourists secured comfortable progress, beating Kada Warriors 3-1, and will face Flight FC in the quarter-finals after Flight FC edged Bida Lions 1-0.
