Portugal Edge Chile 2-1 in Feisty Friendly as Fernandes Shines

Bruno Fernandes delivered a goal and an assist to steer Portugal to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chile in a tempestuous international friendly at Estadio Nacional, keeping Roberto Martinez's side unbeaten as they sharpen their FIFA World Cup preparations.
The contest turned dramatic before the half-time whistle, when Rafael Leao and Chile's Ivan Roman were both dismissed after a brawl involving players from both camps. The flashpoint came following an initial altercation between Felipe Faundez and Joao Cancelo, which escalated into a needless scuffle — Leao and Roman raising their hands at each other and paying the ultimate price.
Ronaldo ruled out, Guedes breaks the deadlock
Portugal came close to taking an early lead on two occasions. Ruben Dias saw his header brilliantly parried by goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, before Leao rattled the post. Cristiano Ronaldo then appeared to give Portugal the lead nine minutes before the break, only for his composed finish under Vigouroux to be chalked off for offside.
Ronaldo was withdrawn at half-time, but his replacement made an immediate impact. In the 58th minute, Fernandes threaded a defence-splitting pass to Goncalo Guedes, who prodded the ball into the bottom-right corner to give the ten-man Portuguese the advantage.
Fernandes seals it, Chile strike late
The Manchester United captain completed a standout personal performance 15 minutes from time, curling a composed finish beyond Vigouroux from the edge of the area to double the lead.
Chile threatened a spirited comeback deep into stoppage time when Lucas Cepeda's powerful left-footed drive flew past Rui Silva, but Portugal held firm to secure all three points and extend their unbeaten run.
