Scotland Arrive at World Cup in Fine Form After Ruthless Bolivia Dismantling

-2 w·1 min

Scotland brushed aside Bolivia 4-0 at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey, delivering a performance that was patient, precise, and clinical — building real momentum one week before their World Cup opener against Haiti.

The conditions were brutal. Temperatures climbed to 32.7 degrees and New Jersey's department of environmental protection issued a Code Orange air quality alert minutes before kick-off. Bolivia, a team accustomed to playing home fixtures at altitude — including at El Alto at 13,600 feet above sea level — might have been expected to cope better. Instead, it was Steve Clarke's side who adapted with greater composure.

Shankland leads the charge

Lawrence Shankland opened the scoring with a header, fed by Ryan Christie and Andy Robertson. The goal continued a remarkable run of form — since September, he has not gone more than two consecutive matches without finding the net. He has scored 24 goals in 38 games this season and 10 in his last 12 since the turn of the year.

Scott McTominay added the second before Che Adams completed the rout with the third and fourth goals, both aided by impressive work from Ben Gannon-Doak. The young Bournemouth winger looked sharper than in previous outings, his run downfield instrumental in Adams' fourth.
