Yan Diomande Eyes PSG Move as Liverpool and European Giants Circle

-4 d·2 min

RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has publicly declared his admiration for Paris Saint-Germain, complicating Liverpool's reported pursuit of the 19-year-old ahead of what promises to be a fiercely contested summer transfer window.

The Ivory Coast international enjoyed a remarkable debut Bundesliga campaign, scoring 12 goals and contributing nine assists in 33 appearances — a haul that earned him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award and attracted attention from some of Europe's wealthiest clubs.

Diomande's childhood dream

Speaking to L'Equipe, Diomande made no secret of where his heart lies. "Paris Saint-Germain is a team I've loved since I was a child. My father supports Paris Saint-Germain, and it's a team I admire as a football fan," he said.

"It would be a pleasure for me to come and play here with one of the biggest clubs. With French being spoken, I think adapting wouldn't be difficult. But why not?"

The winger was careful to keep his immediate focus on the FIFA World Cup 2026, adding: "I don't think I'm looking ahead to the future or focusing on anything else. As I've said, I remain focused on the World Cup. After that, the clubs will sort things out between themselves and we'll see what happens next."

A summer battle taking shape

Liverpool are reported to have made contact with RB Leipzig over a potential deal, with Diomande widely discussed as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, whose departure from Anfield was confirmed at the end of the season alongside those of Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate.

The new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola — appointed after Arne Slot's exit — faces the challenge of rebuilding a squad that also spent heavily last summer, with a £450 million outlay that failed to deliver a title challenge.

Diomande joined Leipzig last summer after his €20 million release clause was triggered at his previous Spanish club. His stunning first season has since driven his estimated market value to €90 million on Transfermarkt, while ESPN report that Leipzig have set an opening asking price of €130 million.

Beyond Liverpool, both Manchester City and Manchester United, as well as Bayern Munich and PSG, have all been linked with the teenage star — meaning Iraola's side could face a formidable bidding war if they push ahead with their interest.
