Finnish powerhouse HJK have confirmed the signing of Nigerian striker David Temidayo Olorunfemi, snapping up the 19-year-old from Tripple 44 Football Academy in Nigeria.

Olorunfemi has put pen to paper on a contract running until the end of the 2027 season, with an option for a further year. He touched down in Finland last weekend and has already begun training at the club's facilities.

A dream opportunity

The young forward wasted no time expressing his excitement about the move, speaking with enthusiasm about the challenge ahead.

"It feels great to come here, this is a great opportunity for me. Striving towards domestic success and Euro competitions is exactly the kind of challenge I have been looking for. I can't wait to help the team as best I can," he told the club's official website.

Olorunfemi also shared warm first impressions of his new surroundings: "I got a really good first impression of Helsinki. The food, weather and scenery are amazing. I look forward to settling here and getting to know more."

HJK beat Scandinavian rivals to the signing

HJK fended off interest from clubs in Sweden and Denmark to secure Olorunfemi's signature, underlining how highly regarded the teenager is among European scouts.

HJK sports director Petri Vuorinen revealed the club had monitored the striker for some time before pulling the trigger on the deal.

"We had been watching David for a long time. He's really good at protecting the ball and an excellent finisher, and these qualities have been very visible since his first practice here. He has adapted extremely well in Finland in a few days and he is passionate about being able to play," Vuorinen said.

Another Tripple 44 product heads to Europe

Olorunfemi becomes the latest in a growing line of talents to emerge from Tripple 44 Football Academy and make the leap to European football, following in the footsteps of Ibrahim Adewale and Emmanuel Godwin, among others.

He arrives at one of Scandinavia's most decorated clubs — HJK boast 33 Finnish league titles, 14 Finnish Cups, and six League Cups to their name.
