Ronald Koeman has stepped down as head coach of the Netherlands, bringing an end to his second spell in charge of the Oranje following their elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Netherlands were knocked out in the last 32 by Morocco, who won a dramatic penalty shootout after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in Monterrey — a result that ended Koeman's tenure on a bittersweet note.

A group stage to remember

The Netherlands had entered the knockout rounds with considerable momentum, finishing top of Group F. Their campaign began with a draw against Japan before they dismantled Sweden 5-1 and followed that up with a 3-1 win over Tunisia.

The exit to Morocco, however, brought that promising run to a sudden halt.

Koeman's farewell message

The 63-year-old took to Instagram to announce his departure with a heartfelt message addressed to players, staff, and supporters alike.
