Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has confirmed the club are in active discussions with Kelechi Iheanacho over a new contract, as the Scottish champions look to hold on to the Nigerian striker who proved pivotal to their double-winning campaign last season.
Iheanacho arrived at Parkhead on a free transfer last summer after departing Sevilla, signing a one-year deal that included a club option to extend for a further 12 months.
Iheanacho crucial for Celtic
The 29-year-old delivered when it mattered most in the Scottish Premiership, scoring late winners against Kilmarnock, Dundee, Hibernian, and Motherwell — decisive goals that accumulated 12 vital points for the Bhoys across the course of the season.
O'Neill was candid about his desire to keep the striker at the club.
