Divock Origi has confirmed his retirement from professional football at the age of 31, bringing down the curtain on a career defined by iconic moments at Liverpool FC and beyond.

The former Belgium international made the announcement on Instagram, revealing that his sense of purpose as a player has been fully realised. In the post, he outlined plans to channel his energy into entrepreneurship, fashion, and philanthropic work.

A cult hero's legacy

Origi spent eight years at Liverpool FC under manager Jürgen Klopp, forging a reputation as one of the most beloved squad players in the club's modern era. Across 175 appearances on Merseyside, he scored 41 goals — a modest tally that belies the outsized weight each contribution carried.

His most celebrated moments came on the European stage. In the 2019 UEFA Champions League semi-final, his goals helped Liverpool FC mount a stunning comeback against Barcelona. He then scored in the final against Tottenham Hotspur, helping the club lift the trophy in Madrid. His winners' medal collection also includes a Premier League title and an FA Cup.

After departing Liverpool FC, Origi had a short spell at AC Milan before leaving the club in December 2024. He made no return to the game thereafter.
