Risks for supporters

The heat poses serious risks beyond the pitch. Following the first three matches at the Hard Rock Stadium, Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue recorded 38 heat-related calls, five of which required hospital treatment. At the Fan Fest in the city, authorities logged 79 heat-related incidents in a single day on 23 June.

Fans are advised to use official shuttle services with cooling sites rather than walk the final stretch to the ground. Taylor urged supporters to seek shade, carry a refillable water bottle, and wear a wide-brimmed hat.

The hottest games so far

Miami has already hosted the two hottest matches of the tournament's group stage. Uruguay's 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia saw a WBGT of approximately 32.9°C, which was eclipsed six days later when Uruguay drew 2-2 with Cape Verde at 33°C WBGT. The tournament's overall peak came in Philadelphia, where Paraguay and France played a last-16 tie at 37°C — feeling as high as 44°C during the record heatwave that swept the eastern United States.

Whoever wins on Saturday must then rapidly readjust for Wednesday's semi-final against Argentina or Switzerland — that match returns indoors to Atlanta.
