Hugo Broos has confirmed his departure as head coach of Bafana Bafana, ending a tenure of more than five years that stands as the longest in South Africa's national team history.
The 74-year-old Belgian took charge in June 2021 and delivered a series of landmark results — guiding South Africa to a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and leading the country to its first-ever World Cup knockout stage appearance.
Retirement decision is final
Speaking to Belgian publication Voetbalnieuws, Broos ruled out any return to the dugout. He was categorical: his days as a head coach are over.
