Morocco head into their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D opener against Brazil under a cloud, with two key players — Abdessamad Ezzalzouli and Noussair Mazraoui — both racing against time to be fit for Sunday's clash at the MetLife Stadium.
The pair sustained injuries during Morocco's final pre-tournament warm-up, a 1-1 draw with Norway on Sunday. Ezzalzouli was withdrawn at half-time with a leg injury, while Mazraoui's afternoon lasted just 29 minutes before a shoulder problem forced him from the pitch.
Morocco made an encouraging start in that friendly, taking an early lead before Norway levelled with 15 minutes to play.
Coach Ouahbi waits on fitness verdict
Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi acknowledged the positive aspects of the performance while making clear the injuries are his primary concern going into the tournament.
