Trabzonspor Turn Down €11m Bid for Onuachu as Saudi Interest Grows

Trabzonspor have rejected an €11 million offer for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu, with the Turkish club holding out for a higher fee.

According to Turkish outlet takagazete, the bid was lodged by a Saudi Arabian club. Onuachu has been on the radar of several Saudi sides since finishing as joint-top scorer in the Turkish Super Lig last season.

Al-Ahli's earlier approach also rebuffed

This is not the first time a Saudi club has been turned away. Al-Ahli of the Saudi Pro League reportedly had a bid rejected during January's transfer window, and interest from the Gulf has not cooled since.

Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has acknowledged that the club received offers for seven players, though he indicated only one or two departures are likely this summer.

Christ Inao Oulaï and Felipe Augusto are among those tipped to leave, while head coach Fatih Tekke is reportedly open to selling Onuachu — the coach is said to prefer a more mobile forward to lead his attack.

A striker in fine form

Onuachu initially joined Trabzonspor on loan in the 2023/24 campaign before the club signed him permanently last summer. He repaid that faith in style, finishing his debut permanent season with 22 goals — level with Eldor Shomurodov for the league's golden boot — and becoming only the sixth player in Trabzonspor's history to claim the honour.

The Nigerian forward also proved his worth in cup football, netting both goals in Trabzonspor's 2-1 Turkish Cup final victory over Konyaspor last month to cement his place as one of the club's most important players.

Despite that form, the club's leadership appears willing to consider a sale — provided any offer significantly surpasses the €11 million already turned down.
