Vancouver's role as a FIFA World Cup 2026 host city came to a close following the Round of 16 clash between Switzerland and Colombia at BC Place, a match that sent the Swiss into the quarter-finals for the first time since 1954 — the year they last hosted the tournament.

BC Place Vancouver welcomed a sold-out crowd of 52,497 fans for each of its seven matches, making it one of the tournament's most celebrated venues. Vancouver was one of only two host cities to receive teams from all six confederations, with ten nations competing at the stadium across the group stage and knockout rounds.

Canada's unforgettable night

The city's most indelible memory came on Thursday, 18 June, when Jesse Marsch's Canada side dismantled AFC champions Qatar 6-0 — a result widely regarded as the finest performance by a Canadian team at a FIFA World Cup. It was Canada's first-ever World Cup victory, and it shattered several records in the process.

Canada became the first team from outside UEFA or CONMEBOL to score six goals in a single World Cup match, and the first Concacaf side to net more than four. Jonathan David claimed a hat-trick, becoming the first Canadian to score three in a World Cup game and the first Concacaf player to achieve the feat since the inaugural 1930 tournament in Uruguay.
