Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna has paid tribute to AIK Stockholm, crediting the Swedish club with shaping him into the player who earned a five-year deal with Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 18-year-old sealed his move to the AMEX Stadium on Saturday, with the transfer set to be completed when the window officially reopens later this month.

Gratitude from a grateful young star

Speaking through AIK's official website, Yohanna reflected warmly on his time in Stockholm. "Almost a year ago, a dream came true when I signed my first first-team contract with AIK. From my first day at AIK, I have enjoyed every second, but now another dream has also come true," he said.

"Even though I am now leaving AIK, I will always carry with me what the club has meant to me and my development both as a footballer and a person. Thanks to all the players, managers and supporters who have supported me."

A rapid rise through the ranks

Yohanna's journey to the Premier League began at Ikon Allah Football Academy in Nigeria before he made the move to Sweden in 2025. He joined AIK's U-19 setup and quickly forced his way into first-team contention, making his senior debut against IFK Göteborg on August 17, 2025.

Across all competitions this season, the winger has registered 18 appearances, scoring five goals and contributing four assists — a return that attracted considerable attention from clubs across Europe.

Newcastle United were reported to be among those tracking Yohanna, with Chelsea also said to have been monitoring the youngster before Brighton & Hove Albion moved decisively to secure his signature.

Yohanna had also earned a call-up to the Super Eagles squad for the Unity Cup, though an injury prevented him from featuring in the tournament.
