Scenes of jubilation turned to chaos across France after Paris Saint-Germain claimed the UEFA Champions League title against Arsenal in a penalty shootout, leaving 219 people injured in clashes between fans and police, according to BBC reporting.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed that 780 people had been arrested in connection with the violence, with more than 450 remaining in custody. Among those detained were 82 minors. Paris police alone made 480 arrests, with 277 taken into custody. The Paris prosecutor's office described the offences as ranging from attacks on officers and property to theft and illegal possession of weapons.

Nuñez added that 57 officers were among the injured, with eight people — including members of the public — in a serious condition. Thousands of police had been deployed ahead of the night in anticipation of unrest, but disturbances still disrupted bus, tram, and rail services in the capital.

Death and disorder on the ring road

A 24-year-old man was found dead near Porte Maillot on Paris's ring road after an accident, the exact circumstances of which remain unclear. Witnesses described him as riding a motorcycle that struck concrete blocks placed by rioters attempting to obstruct traffic overnight. A teenager was also reported to be in critical condition after a separate brawl elsewhere in Paris; it is not yet known whether either incident was directly connected to the football-related unrest.

On the Champs-Élysées, vast crowds gathered in the hours following PSG's victory. Video footage captured flares being lit, electric bikes set ablaze on the road, and at least one shopfront's glass smashed by revellers. Police deployed tear gas to disperse crowds in the city centre.
