Aaron Wan-Bissaka Joins Aston Villa on Loan from West Ham United

Aston Villa have secured the services of right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka on a season-long loan from Championship side West Ham United, with the agreement containing a conditional obligation to buy.

The 28-year-old DR Congo international missed the Hammers' opening two Championship fixtures while the move was being negotiated. Villa are understood to have discussed a permanent fee in the region of £25 million with West Ham United, though the exact financial terms remain undisclosed.

A Premier League return

Wan-Bissaka made the switch to West Ham United from Manchester United in 2024 on a seven-year contract. Over two seasons at the club, he accumulated 65 appearances — including 25 last term, when the Hammers suffered relegation to the Championship.

Before his time at West Ham United, he turned out 190 times for Manchester United, collecting the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024 among his honours.

World Cup pedigree

Wan-Bissaka arrived at Villa Park carrying momentum from the FIFA World Cup 2026, where he started every one of DR Congo's four group-stage matches and helped the nation advance to the round of 32.

He could make his Villa debut as early as Sunday when Aston Villa travel to Brighton in their Premier League opener (14:00 BST). Beyond the domestic campaign, the defender will also compete in the UEFA Champions League — a competition Aston Villa qualified for by finishing fourth in the Premier League and winning the UEFA Europa League under manager Unai Emery last season.
