Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre has declared that his squad has spent the days since their opening victory drilling specifically on how to neutralise South Korea ahead of their Group A fixture at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
El Tri kicked off the tournament in style with a 2-0 win over South Africa, but Aguirre has wasted no time shifting attention to a far more demanding challenge. South Korea bring pace and technical quality in transition — and Aguirre wants his side ready for every moment of danger.
Zero tolerance for nerves
Aguirre was candid about one aspect of the South Africa performance that dissatisfied him: the visible anxiety his players showed in the opening stages. He made clear that such hesitation would not be tolerated moving forward.
