The Nigeria international broke the deadlock in the 17th minute, netting what was Hull City's first Premier League goal since 2017 — a milestone that underlined the weight of the occasion for both the centre-back and the club.

Dominant from back to front

Ajayi's influence extended well beyond his early strike. He was equally commanding at the back, recording five clearances, three recoveries, and two interceptions, while also winning two aerial duels across the 90 minutes.

His all-round display earned him 38.9 percent of the Man of the Match votes, placing him ahead of fellow goalscorer Nobel Mendy, who claimed 31.4 percent.
