Arsenal Snatch Late Draw Against Bayern Munich in Champions League Thriller
Arsenal fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, holding Bayern Munich in a pulsating UEFA Champions League encounter that extended their unbeaten run in the league phase to 15 matches.
The tie carried all the hallmarks of a heavyweight clash — two unbeaten sides meeting on Matchday 3 — and neither disappointed. Yet Arsenal's evening threatened to unravel inside 10 minutes when Bukayo Saka limped off with a left quad injury, making way for Eberechi Eze.
Eze shines on the big stage
Eze wasted no time making his mark. On 25', Martin Odegaard slipped an inch-perfect ball over Bayern's defensive line and Eze — perfectly timed to beat the offside trap — slotted coolly past Manuel Neuer to give Arsenal the lead.
Bayern hit back swiftly. In the 35th minute, Harry Kane threaded a superb through-ball that left Jurrien Timber exposed, and Alphonso Davies swept home the equaliser. The hosts then took control in the 61st minute when Kane stepped up to convert from the penalty spot after Timber was adjudged to have handled his goal-bound effort.
Rice rescues Arsenal
With eight minutes remaining and the match seemingly slipping away, Declan Rice produced the moment of the night. He drove forward, exchanged a sharp one-two with Viktor Gyokeres, collected the return, and hammered a ferocious strike past Neuer to make it 2-2.
The equaliser denied Bayern what would have been a remarkable milestone — a 39th consecutive home match without defeat in the UEFA Champions League group and league phase, a record stretching all the way back to 2013.
The result leaves Arsenal seventh in the league phase standings on seven points, while Bayern sit 14th on five points.
Wednesday's other results
