Arsenal Sports Science Chief Departs After Premier League Title Win

2 hours ago·1 min

Arsenal's head of sports science performance, Tom Allen, is set to leave the club this summer, becoming the latest backroom figure to exit following the club's historic Premier League title triumph.

Allen, who joined Arsenal from Aston Villa in 2017, oversaw first-team performance across sports science, physical output, nutrition, and performance support during his time at the club.

A wave of departures

His exit follows those of head of medical Dr Zaf Iqbal and lead performance coach Sam Wilson — all three departing within weeks of Arsenal claiming their first Premier League title in 22 years.

The club endured significant injury problems throughout last season, with several key players sidelined for extended periods despite the title win.

External review behind the changes

The departures are connected to an internal review that has involved external medical expert Joaquin Acedo. Acedo shares a longstanding working relationship with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, dating back to their time together at Everton.

Sources familiar with the restructuring say Acedo's influence on this summer's changes has been considerable.
