Arsenal Target Bruno Guimarães With £80 Million Bid as Newcastle Dig In

2 hours ago·2 min

Arsenal are preparing to submit a bid of approximately £80 million for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães, according to TEAMtalk, after receiving positive signals from the Brazilian international's representatives.

The Gunners have held extensive talks with Guimarães' camp in recent weeks and have grown increasingly confident that a transfer could be achievable — provided they can reach an agreement with Newcastle. An earlier approach worth less than £60 million was swiftly rejected by the club.

Guimarães preferred over Tonali

Although Arsenal internally considered both Bruno Guimarães and his Newcastle teammate Sandro Tonali as potential marquee signings this summer, the club has now shifted its focus firmly toward the Brazilian. Guimarães is understood to have no intention of signing a new contract at St. James' Park, a development that has emboldened Arsenal to press ahead.

Tonali, meanwhile, has attracted interest of his own — with Tottenham Hotspur among the clubs said to be monitoring his situation at Newcastle.

Newcastle's stance on Guimarães

Newcastle have declined to put a public figure on Guimarães' value and insist they have no wish to part with one of Eddie Howe's most important players. Privately, however, sources suggest the club would demand a fee that comfortably surpasses Arsenal's anticipated £80 million offer.

The situation at St. James' Park is made more complicated by uncertainty surrounding several senior members of Howe's squad. Beyond Guimarães and Tonali, both Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento have drawn admiring glances from clubs across Europe, leaving Newcastle facing a potentially turbulent summer.

Whether Arsenal's revised bid will be enough to unlock a deal remains to be seen, but the Gunners appear determined to land their primary midfield target before the transfer window closes.
