Arteta Provides Injury Update on Havertz, Rice, and Konsa Ahead of Arsenal vs Leeds United

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Kai Havertz remains a doubt for Arsenal's Premier League fixture against Leeds United on Saturday, with several other first-team players still being assessed following an injury-hit international break.

Havertz hamstring scare

Havertz was forced off after only 30 minutes of Germany's match against Netherlands — Jurgen Klopp's first game as Germany head coach — having suffered a hamstring strain. The forward returned to north London immediately for treatment rather than remaining with the national squad.

Arteta revealed he spoke directly with Jurrien Timber, who featured for the opposition that day, about the incident. "Kai has had a muscular injury," Arteta told reporters on Friday. "I spoke to Jurrien and they immediately sent the player back."

Konsa and Tzolis also affected

Ezri Konsa missed England's final international break fixture against Czech Republic due to a knock, and Arteta confirmed the defender is still being assessed. "Ezri has been carrying some issues as well and we had some good communication with the England camp," the manager added.

Christos Tzolis sustained a hamstring injury while representing Greece and faces the most serious setback of the group. Arteta confirmed the winger will be sidelined for "a few weeks" and is unavailable for Saturday's match. Martin Odegaard, who was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge from Bernardo Silva during Norway duty, missed one Norway game but recovered in time to feature against Portugal.

Rice expected to be available

Declan Rice withdrew from the England squad before a ball was kicked, though Arteta stressed the decision was a precautionary measure around load management rather than a fresh injury. Rice has dealt with a neural hamstring problem throughout the year — an issue that required him to play through pain at the World Cup.

Arteta expressed optimism that Rice would be fit for Saturday. "We have to manage him. He's had a few issues since he's come back from the World Cup. We know how many games he's played in the last three years — it was the sensible thing to do. Hopefully he's available, and some others that are in doubt."
