Mikel Arteta has secured an improved new contract with Arsenal, tying the Premier League champions' manager to the club beyond his current deal, which was due to expire at the end of this season.

Talks between Arteta and the Gunners had been running for several months, and BBC Sport reported earlier this month that both sides were closing in on an agreement. That agreement has now been finalised.

The precise length of the new deal has not been confirmed, but it is expected to keep Arteta at the Emirates Stadium into at least his 10th year at the club. The Spaniard first arrived in north London in December 2019.

Alongside the contract extension, Arteta will receive a significant salary increase. His current earnings stand at £10 million per year, with a further £5 million available through bonuses — figures that will rise sharply under the new terms.

Arteta's message to Arsenal fans

The manager moved to reassure supporters during the week, dismissing any suggestion that his future was uncertain. "They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that because I want to be here," Arteta said. "I'm extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with."

Arteta's renewal comes as Arsenal continue to build on their Premier League title triumph, with the club firmly established among Europe's elite under his leadership.
