Aston Villa Break Club Record Again With £65m Nicolas Jackson Signing From Chelsea
Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea, with the deal worth a fixed fee of £47.5m that could rise to £65m — making it the club's new transfer record in a single summer window.
The move eclipses the £59.5m Villa agreed to pay for Johan Maznambi earlier this summer, meaning the club have broken their own record twice within the same transfer window.
Jackson steps in for Watkins
Jackson arrives at Villa Park as a direct replacement for Ollie Watkins, who is closing in on a £50m move to Al Hilal. Watkins, the England striker, did not feature in Villa's recent fixture against Brighton and is currently undergoing a medical in Saudi Arabia ahead of finalising his departure.
Villa's official statement confirmed the details of the deal: "Nicolas Jackson is an Aston Villa player, after joining from Chelsea to become the club's eighth signing of the summer transfer window."
A reunion with Emery
The Senegal international arrives at Bodymoor Heath having spent time at German champions Bayern Munich on loan, and has recorded 30 goals in 81 appearances across two seasons with Chelsea.
The move also marks a reunion between Jackson and Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, the pair having previously worked together at Villarreal earlier in Jackson's career. The forward has already met his new teammates, completed his paperwork, and sat down with VillaTV for his first interview as an Aston Villa player.
