Al Hilal have had at least one bid rejected for Watkins, with their opening offer understood to be in the region of £38.5 million. The 30-year-old is said to be keen on the move to Saudi Arabia, where he is being targeted as a potential successor to Karim Benzema — a player Al Hilal are also working to move on by resolving his contract situation.

Aston Villa are reluctant to let Watkins leave, given his importance to the squad. Last season he scored 16 league goals, played a key role in Villa's Europa League triumph, and helped secure another season of UEFA Champions League football. He was also part of England's squad at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
