Augsburg delivered a commanding performance to dismantle Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1 at home in the Bundesliga on Sunday, climbing to the top of the table with six points from two matches.

Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika played the full 90 minutes for Frankfurt in what was only his second Bundesliga appearance since arriving from Club Brugge during the summer transfer window. Fellow Nigerian Uchenna Ogundu, who leads Augsburg's attack, was again named among the substitutes and did not feature.

Frankfurt's bright start undone

The hosts made a promising start, taking the lead as early as the 6th minute through a header from Jonathan Burkardt. Frankfurt controlled the first half — holding the greater share of possession and creating more chances — yet could not add to their advantage, spurning several opportunities.

That failure proved costly. In the 46th minute, Arijon Ibrahimović drew Augsburg level with a header, and just 60 seconds later Robin Fellhauer put the visitors ahead after goalkeeper Noah Atubolu fumbled a routine effort. Within the space of two second-half minutes, Frankfurt had gone from leading to trailing.

Augsburg seal a comprehensive win

Substitute Alexis Claude-Maurice extended the lead to 3-1 in the 65th minute, putting the result beyond doubt. Fabian Rieder then capped a superb team display by curling home a free-kick in the 89th minute to make it 4-1.

The result gives Augsburg their second victory of the season — following a strong opening-day result — and sends them to the summit of the Bundesliga standings. Frankfurt, who drew 3-3 with Union Berlin on Matchday 1, are left with just one point and find themselves in the lower half of the table after two rounds.
