Bafana Bafana Have Nothing to Offer at 2026 World Cup, Says Ex-Super Eagles Defender Udeze

Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has delivered a damning verdict on South Africa's Bafana Bafana, declaring that the team has nothing to offer at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Udeze shared his assessment on BRILA FM in the wake of Bafana Bafana's opening-match defeat to co-host Mexico — a result he believes foreshadows an early group-stage exit for the South Africans.

A costly collapse against the co-hosts

The contest turned chaotic as three red cards were brandished across the 90 minutes. Bafana Bafana's Yaya Sithole and Themba Zwane were both dismissed, while Mexico's César Montes also received his marching orders late in the game.

Mexico capitalised on the numerical advantages ruthlessly. Julián Quiñones opened the scoring with a powerful finish after Sithole surrendered possession 20 yards from goal, and came close to doubling the lead when his effort struck the base of the post. Former Fulham striker Raul Jiménez then headed in a second to put the result beyond doubt.
