Barcelona have confirmed the permanent signing of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal, with the deal understood to be worth £8.6 million (10 million euros).

Jesus had grown increasingly peripheral at Arsenal over recent seasons. Injuries hampered his progress, and the arrivals of Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres pushed him further down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

Napoli were among the clubs monitoring Jesus's situation, but it is Barcelona — last season's Spanish league champions — who have secured his signature after he completed his medical on Monday.

Jesus's Arsenal record

The Brazilian joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 and made 123 appearances for the Gunners, contributing 32 goals and 22 assists across all competitions before departing north London.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta gave little away when addressing Jesus's future ahead of his side's victory over Aston Villa, confirming only that the striker had not been training with the squad. Asked directly whether Jesus was leaving, Arteta said: "Personal situations, whatever they are, I think it's clear."

Barcelona's summer business

Jesus becomes Barcelona's third arrival from the Premier League this summer, following the additions of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle and Rodri from Manchester City.

The Catalan club have also been pursuing Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, though Atletico have made it plain they will not negotiate with their La Liga rivals. Arsenal are understood to have held an interest in Alvarez as well, though a move appears unlikely at this stage.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have offloaded Fabio Vieira to Hamburger SV and are closing in on a loan arrangement for youngster Ethan Nwaneri to join Borussia Dortmund.
