Barcelona Table €80 Million Offer for Manchester City Defender Josko Gvardiol

3 hours ago·2 min

Josko Gvardiol's future at Manchester City is in serious doubt after Barcelona lodged a concrete opening offer of €80 million for the Croatia international, according to a report from Fussball Transfers.

The 24-year-old left-back has been one of City's standout performers in recent seasons — winning the Premier League title in 2024 and being named Manchester City Player of the Season in 2025 — yet the club's turbulent summer has left his status uncertain.

A club in transition

The departure of manager Pep Guardiola after a decade at the Etihad Stadium set the tone for a significant squad overhaul. John Stones and Bernardo Silva have already left, while Nathan Ake and Omar Marmoush are also understood to be among those who could follow them out of the door.

FourFourTwo understands that City consider Gvardiol central to their plans, and the club maintains he is under contract with no pressure to sell. His deal still has two years to run.

Barcelona and European rivals circle

Barcelona, under manager Hansi Flick, are reported to have submitted the €80 million bid — a figure that suggests the Catalan club expect personal terms with Gvardiol to be straightforward. Real Madrid have also identified him as a potential solution at left-back, while Bayern Munich are believed to be monitoring the position as well.

City originally signed Gvardiol from RB Leipzig in 2023 for a fee reported by the BBC to be around €90 million (£77 million). Transfermarkt currently values the Zagreb-born defender at €70 million.

World Cup focus comes first

Any transfer is unlikely to be concluded before the FIFA World Cup 2026, with Gvardiol keen to focus on the tournament. Croatia face England in their opening group fixture, and the defender will be hoping to build on the nation's third-placed finish at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

For now, City are holding firm — but with Barcelona's offer on the table and European heavyweights queuing up, the pressure on the Etihad hierarchy is only growing.
