Lukas Hornicek was unfortunate for Bournemouth's second, with the ball rebounding off the upright and striking him before crossing the line. There were also one or two moments of miscommunication at the back. Rating: 5.

Amar Dedic showed genuine promise going forward on his Newcastle United debut and delivered the cross that led to the equaliser, yet was exposed defensively for both opposition goals. Rating: 4.

Malick Thiaw, standing in as captain in Dan Burn's absence, was helpless as his block on Alex Scott's cross looped into the bottom corner for an own goal. Rating: 5.

Sven Botman gifted Bournemouth possession with a poor clearance before Marcus Tavernier's opener, but recovered to make several crucial interventions to deny Evanilson. Rating: 5.

Lewis Hall coped noticeably better with Rayan than he had in the corresponding fixture in April. Rating: 6.

Nico Gonzalez could not replicate the impact of his standout debut against Tottenham Hotspur. He missed a tackle before Bournemouth's second and only partly blocked Scott's effort in the build-up to the visitors' first. Rating: 5.

Lewis Miley, still only 20 and brimming with potential, found it difficult to impose himself on Bournemouth's midfield, with his passing falling below his usual standard. Rating: 5.

Anthony Elanga grew increasingly frustrated with decisions going against him and found Adrien Truffert a tough opponent throughout. Rating: 5.

Joe Willock gave everything in pressing and tracking back, coming close to scoring with a header, but the goal would not come. Rating: 5.

Harvey Barnes was the standout performer in black and white. With Newcastle rocking, he produced a stunning strike from the hosts' first shot on target to breathe life back into the match. Rating: 7.

Yoane Wissa appeared more comfortable operating in the number 10 role than through the middle, dropping deep frequently to get on the ball and showing determination to tee up Willock with a significant chance. Rating: 5.

Among the substitutes, Matias Fernandez-Pardo received a rousing reception on his debut, swiftly winning a free-kick and pressing hard to recover possession. Rating: 6. Ramsey, meanwhile, made the decisive contribution — a composed, well-taken finish that secured the point. Rating: 7. Jacob Murphy and Sean Steur both earned a 6 after coming on in the 77th minute.

Bournemouth player ratings

Djordje Petrovic had little chance with Barnes' effort and otherwise enjoyed a relatively untroubled afternoon. Rating: 6.

Adam Smith, at 35, continued to demonstrate his value, contributing to Tavernier's opener by nudging the ball into Scott's path, even if he was tested defensively at times. Rating: 6.

James Hill was solid and dependable, cementing his status as an important figure under manager Marco Rose. Rating: 6.

Antonio Silva took a heavy blow to the head from an Elanga challenge but shook it off to complete a composed display. Rating: 6.

Adrien Truffert was one of Bournemouth's more effective performers, keeping Elanga quiet and consistently troubling Dedic in behind. Rating: 7.

Tyler Adams, making his first competitive start under Rose, could not get close enough to Barnes for Newcastle's goal but otherwise impressed sufficiently to make himself very difficult to drop. Rating: 7.

Alex Scott was arguably the best player on the pitch. He played a direct role in both of Bournemouth's goals, with his passing range and vision a constant threat throughout. Rating: 8.

Rayan was less influential than in the corresponding fixture last season and was visibly berated by Rose at one point. Rating: 5.

Marcus Tavernier showed sharp anticipation to give Bournemouth the lead and has now scored in each of his past three visits to St James' Park. Rating: 7.

Justin Kluivert was a persistent nuisance and played a key role in the visitors' second goal, audaciously shooting from 35 yards to set it up. Rating: 7.

Evanilson battled hard against Botman throughout, missing a couple of presentable chances but never shirking his defensive duties. Rating: 6.
