Bassey and Iwobi's Fulham Fall to Dramatic Ipswich Town Comeback

1 hour ago·2 min

Nigeria's Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey were both on the pitch for Fulham on Saturday, but neither could prevent a painful 2-1 Premier League defeat at the hands of Ipswich Town at Portman Road — a result sealed in the depths of stoppage time.

Iwobi completed his sixth league outing of the season before manager Marco Silva withdrew him for Emile Smith Rowe in the 87th minute. Bassey, equally on his sixth Premier League appearance of the campaign, played every minute in defence.

Sessegnon breaks the deadlock

After a tight, goalless first half, Fulham took the lead through Ryan Sessegnon in the 55th minute. The winger collected a loose ball from a corner and drove a composed left-footed finish past Christian Walton into the bottom-right corner.

Fulham controlled the closing stages and appeared set to pocket all three points, but Ipswich Town refused to yield and their late tactical adjustments began to bear fruit.

Ipswich's stunning turnaround

Just seconds after Iwobi left the field, Abdoul Ouattara levelled in the 88th minute, hammering a ferocious left-footed strike from outside the penalty area into the bottom-left corner to make it 1-1.

The momentum swung entirely towards the hosts, and Ipswich completed one of the more remarkable late comebacks of the season in the 92nd minute. Jack Clarke delivered a pinpoint set-piece cross, and captain Dara O'Shea met it at close range, powering a header into the top-left corner to send Portman Road into a frenzy.

The victory hands Ipswich three precious points and inflicts a gutting finish on Fulham, whose Nigerian pair contributed throughout only to leave empty-handed.
