BBC Announces Broadcast Team for France vs Iraq at the 2026 World Cup

France will be seeking to seal their place in the knockout rounds when they face Iraq on Monday, following a confident opening victory over Senegal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. A Kylian Mbappe brace in that opener—which in the process made him France's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Olivier Giroud—set the tone for Les Bleus, and three more points against Iraq would confirm their safe passage into the round of 32.

For Iraq, making only their second World Cup appearance since their debut in 1986, the task is to recover from a heavy 4-1 opening defeat to Norway. They will face a France side brimming with confidence.

The match kicks off at 4pm local time—10pm in the UK—at the Philadelphia Stadium in the United States.

BBC coverage details

BBC One will broadcast the match live in the UK, with the France vs Iraq game serving as the second fixture in a double-header, preceded by Argentina's Group J meeting with Austria.

Match of the Day co-presenter Kelly Cates will anchor the studio coverage, joined by a panel of three former Premier League and international players.

The punditry panel

Olivier Giroud, whose France scoring record was overtaken by Mbappe during the Senegal match, will feature as a pundit, analysing the performances of his former international colleagues. Giroud had spells at Arsenal and Chelsea before ending his club career.

Gael Clichy, another former Arsenal and France defender, will provide expert defensive analysis. The 40-year-old earned 20 caps for France and won the Premier League three times—once with Arsenal and twice with Manchester City.

Completing the studio panel is Joe Hart, the former England goalkeeper who made 75 appearances for his country and represented England at both the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. Hart is also a former Manchester City player.

Commentary team

Steve Wilson, a BBC commentator since the late 1990s, will call the action from the Philadelphia Stadium gantry. He will be joined by Stephen Warnock, the former left-back who represented Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Leeds United during his club career.

Warnock, now 44, won two England caps and was part of the 2010 World Cup squad, though he did not appear in any of England's matches at the tournament.
