Both Czechia and South Africa arrive at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta needing a result, after neither side enjoyed a winning start to FIFA World Cup 2026. BBC Broadcast Team Confirmed for Czechia vs South Africa at World Cup 2026

Both Czechia and South Africa arrive at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta needing a result, after neither side enjoyed a winning start to FIFA World Cup 2026. The Group A clash — the only game in that group to be played outside Mexico — will be broadcast live and free-to-air on BBC One in the UK, with streaming available via iPlayer.
UK coverage kicks off at 4:30pm, 30 minutes before the Georgia fixture gets under way. Mark Chapman will present throughout, flanked by a punditry panel that includes former Wales captain Ashley Williams, ex-Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank, and South Africa international Benni McCarthy.
A punditry panel packed with international pedigree
McCarthy brings a particular personal stake to the occasion. He earned 79 caps for Bafana Bafana and is currently head coach of Kenya, making him uniquely placed to offer insight on the South African side. His solitary World Cup finals goal came in 2002, when his equaliser in Daejeon briefly levelled things up against Spain in the group stage.
Williams, meanwhile, represented Wales on 86 occasions, ensuring there is no shortage of international experience in the BBC studio in Salford.
Frank, the Danish manager who departed Brentford for Tottenham Hotspur last summer before leaving the North London club relatively quickly, adds a continental coaching perspective. He cut his teeth in the Denmark youth set-up before taking charge of Brondby and subsequently moving to England.
Wilson and Warnock on commentary
Steve Wilson will take commentary duties, with Stephen Warnock alongside him as co-commentator. Warnock, a former full-back who represented Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, and Aston Villa during his club career, is now 44. He made two appearances for England in friendlies around the 2010 World Cup.
Notably, McCarthy and Warnock share a Blackburn connection — the pair played together in 82 matches for the Lancashire club, giving their partnership in the BBC booth an added layer of familiarity.
With both nations desperate to reignite their knockout ambitions, the stakes could not be higher at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
