Sebastian Beccacece has confirmed his departure as Ecuador manager following the team's 2-0 defeat to Mexico in the last 32 of the FIFA World Cup.
The Argentine coach guided Ecuador through a dramatic group stage, which included a comeback 2-1 win over Germany in their final group match — a result that secured Ecuador a place in the knockout rounds as one of the best third-placed teams. It was only the second time in their history that Ecuador had reached the last 32.
However, their tournament ended at the hands of Mexico, with goals from Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez in the first half sealing a comfortable victory for the co-hosts. Beccacece acknowledged that his side were outplayed before the break.
