Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko is facing an uncertain spell on the sidelines after Slovenian media reported that his latest injury "doesn't look good," with the forward awaiting an MRI scan in London to determine the severity of the problem.

The 23-year-old was absent from United's 1-1 Premier League draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage, with manager Michael Carrick turning to Matheus Cunha to lead the attack in his place. Sesko has made six appearances for the club this season, contributing two goals.

A history of shin trouble

Slovenian outlet Ekipa sounded the alarm over Sesko's fitness, suggesting the injury could be a recurring, chronic issue rather than a straightforward knock. "It doesn't look good because of history and past patterns," the outlet said, adding that "persistent injuries cannot be simply repaired, patched, sewn or bandaged."

Ekipa also raised concern over the absence of a visible fracture, noting that such cases "are usually chronic." Fellow Slovenian publication Planet Nogomet described the scan as an investigation into "a repetition of problems that have plagued" Sesko in recent seasons.

Carrick had initially struck a cautious but measured tone after the Fulham match, noting that Sesko had felt "a little bit of pain" following Manchester United's Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion. "We're assessing that: hopefully, it's not too bad, but we will have to see," he said.

Sesko missed a full month of last season with a knee injury and subsequently picked up a shin problem in May during a match against Liverpool, which limited his involvement in pre-season preparations. Despite those setbacks, his overall injury record at RB Leipzig was relatively clean — he missed just 12 matches during his time there.

Mounting absences at Old Trafford

The news adds to a growing list of concerns for Carrick, with Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo both withdrawing from international duty during the break due to their own respective issues. FourFourTwo reported that neither player is believed to be facing a long-term absence, however.

England have also been dealt further blows, with Tino Livramento, Cole Palmer, and Declan Rice all ruled out of forthcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures. James Garner and Morgan Gibbs-White were called up as replacements.

According to Transfermarkt, Sesko carries a market value of €75 million. Manchester United return to Premier League action against Tottenham Hotspur in October.
