Bierhoff Backs Wirtz for Barcelona Move Despite Liverpool Commitment

1 hour ago·1 min

Former Germany striker Oliver Bierhoff has publicly endorsed a potential future transfer of Florian Wirtz to FC Barcelona, despite the midfielder having only recently joined Liverpool.

Speaking to Sport Bild, Bierhoff argued that Barcelona's style of play under manager Hansi Flick would suit Wirtz's qualities perfectly. He also offered warm praise for the 2025 Liverpool signing, suggesting those at Anfield should feel fortunate to have him.

"Our style of play suits Flo Wirtz. I don't even know what Flo has to do right to make everyone happy. Everyone in Liverpool should be happy today."
"Wirtz would fit in well, for example, at Hansi Flick's Barcelona, where he'll have space and fantastic teammates. He is a world-class player who now needs to prove it once again with consistent performances and by making his mark."

A familiar partnership

Bierhoff's comments carry added weight given that Flick previously managed Wirtz during his time as coach of Germany. The two men already have an established working relationship, which Bierhoff believes would ease any potential transition to the Catalan club.

Liverpool over all others

Wirtz chose Liverpool ahead of several elite suitors — including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City — when he departed Germany in 2025. The player has acknowledged a childhood admiration for Barcelona, yet ultimately opted for Anfield.

Importantly, there are currently no transfer negotiations or formal discussions between Barcelona and Liverpool over Wirtz. Bierhoff's remarks remain a personal opinion rather than any indication of an imminent deal.
