Bounou Backs Morocco's Deserved Victory Over Scotland at World Cup 2026
Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has declared that the Atlas Lions fully merited their 1-0 victory over Scotland in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C clash at Boston Stadium on Saturday.
Ismael Saibari struck inside the second minute to hand Morocco what proved to be the decisive goal — and the fastest of the entire tournament so far. It was also Morocco's quickest-ever goal at a World Cup.
How Saibari broke the deadlock
The opener came after a perfectly weighted pass from Brahim Diaz released Saibari in behind the Scottish defence. The midfielder collected, composed himself, and drove the ball into the roof of the net past goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
Morocco dominated the remainder of the contest, keeping Scotland pinned back and creating the match's most dangerous opportunities throughout.
Bounou praises the team's patience
Speaking to FIFA.com after the final whistle, Bounou reflected on a controlled and composed team display.
