Bournemouth have completed the signing of Spanish right-back Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla in a deal that could rise to £11.1 million. The 22-year-old becomes the Cherries' third summer acquisition, joining the club after more than 100 senior appearances for the Andalusian side.

Juanlu arrives with experience across three competitions at the highest level — La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Super Cup — and brings international pedigree to the south-coast club. He was a member of Spain's gold medal-winning squad at the 2024 Olympic Games, where he scored the decisive goal in the semi-final against Morocco before helping his side defeat France in the final.

Deal breakdown and squad context

BBC Sport understands the initial fee is £9.4 million, with £1.7 million in potential add-ons taking the total to £11.1 million. The Cherries had already invested heavily this summer, spending £25.7 million on defender Antonio Silva from Benfica and a further £25.7 million on striker Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche.

Juanlu said he was delighted to complete the move. "I am very happy, both for me and for my family. We had a lot of desire to come here and finally I can say that I am a player of Bournemouth," he told the club.

Tiago Pinto, Bournemouth's president of football operations, welcomed the arrival, saying: "Juanlu has an excellent level of experience at just 22, and we're really pleased to add him to Marco's squad. With Sevilla, he has shown his qualities domestically and in European competitions, so we know of his ability to compete at the top level consistently. He is young still and hungry for more, so adds further invaluable characteristics to the squad ahead of the upcoming season."

Head coach Marco Rose is now focused on adding a backup goalkeeper to challenge Djordje Petrovic as the club continue pre-season preparations. Bournemouth face a historic campaign this term — their first-ever venture into the UEFA Europa League.

Meanwhile, striker Enes Unal is available for transfer, with Sevilla among those to have registered interest. The Turkey international is also weighing options in Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Senior club sources confirm that Eli Junior Kroupi, Rayan, and Alex Scott are not for sale.
