Brentford Close to Signing Free Agent Callum Wilson

Brentford are on the verge of completing the signing of Callum Wilson, with the former England striker expected to join the west London club on an initial 12-month deal this week.
The 34-year-old is currently a free agent after departing West Ham at the end of last season, when the club was relegated from the Premier League. Wilson spent the campaign at the London Stadium, where he contributed seven goals in 32 appearances.
His arrival at Gtech Community Stadium is set to add competition for Brazil international Igor Thiago, who Brentford have made clear is not available for transfer at any price. That stance has held firm despite reports this summer of approaches worth £80 million or even £90 million.
Room to reshape the squad
The deal would also open a path for 19-year-old Belgian striker Kaye Furo to gain experience elsewhere, with a loan move anticipated for the youngster next season.
Wilson brings considerable top-flight pedigree to Brentford, having previously represented Bournemouth, Newcastle United, and West Ham in the Premier League. On the international stage, he earned nine England caps between 2018 and 2023, scoring twice and featuring at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Before agreeing terms with Brentford, Wilson had also been linked with a sentimental return to Coventry City, the club he supported as a boy. Coventry are heading back to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years after clinching the Championship title last season.
