Brentford Report Rugby Ball Pitch Invasion to Police After Liverpool Defeat

54 minutes ago·1 min

Brentford have contacted police following a troubling incident during their Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday, in which a rugby ball was kicked from a rooftop onto the pitch at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Footage circulating on social media shows a man on a rooftop close to the ground launching the rugby ball toward the playing surface, surrounded by others laughing and cheering him on. A separate clip filmed from inside the stadium shows a member of staff retrieving the ball from the pitch while play continued undisturbed.

Club condemns dangerous act

In an official statement, Brentford described the behaviour as "dangerous and potentially very harmful," and confirmed the matter had been referred to police. The club pledged full cooperation with authorities to identify those responsible.

"The matter has been referred to the police and the club is supporting the relevant authorities in their investigation to help identify those responsible and take appropriate action, which may result in criminal prosecution."

Brentford also reaffirmed the importance of matchday safety. "The matchday safety of fans, staff, players and officials is of utmost importance, and the club will support all efforts to ensure action is taken," the statement read.

A difficult afternoon at Gtech

The off-field drama compounded a miserable afternoon for Brentford, who fell to a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool. The hosts were also reduced to nine men after Yehor Yarmolyuk and Vitaly Janelt were both dismissed in the second half. Despite the setback, Brentford remain sixth in the Premier League table.
