South Africa head coach Hugo Broos expressed pride in his players after Bafana Bafana fought back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Czechia in their second FIFA World Cup 2026 Group A fixture at the Atlanta Stadium on Thursday.
Teboho Mokoena's composed penalty — converted in the 80th minute after Pavel Sulc was penalised for handball — cancelled out Michal Sadilek's early strike and secured a point for the South Africans.
Early blow, late rescue
Bafana Bafana found themselves behind inside six minutes, echoing the pattern from their opening match against Mexico. Adam Hlozek's cross from the right set up the move, and Alexandr Sojka released Sadilek, who lashed the ball past goalkeeper Williams.
Czechia controlled much of the contest and appeared on course for all three points until the handball decision changed the game's complexion. Mokoena stepped up to the spot and sent Matej Kovar the wrong way, levelling matters with ten minutes remaining.

Speaking after the final whistle, Broos made clear he had no complaints about his side's effort or approach.
