Bruno Fernandes' Home Burgled During Manchester United's Champions League Defeat to Como

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had his Cheshire home broken into on Wednesday evening while he was in Italy representing the club in their UEFA Champions League fixture against Como.
It is understood that Fernandes' family were not present in the property at the time of the break-in. Intruders are reported to have spent fewer than five minutes inside before police arrived on the scene. Manchester United are understood to be supporting Fernandes in the aftermath of the incident.
BBC Sport has contacted Cheshire Police for comment.
A pattern targeting footballers' homes
Fernandes is far from the first footballer to have his home targeted while away on matchday. Manchester City defender Ruben Dias and his then-partner Maya Jama suffered a burglary at their Cheshire property under similar circumstances — Dias was away for City's UEFA Champions League match against Galatasaray when the break-in occurred in January.
Other footballers previously targeted in the same region include Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez, highlighting what appears to be a troubling pattern of organised burglaries timed to coincide with high-profile fixtures.
Fernandes speaks out after heavy defeat
The Portugal midfielder has been a cornerstone of Manchester United's squad since his arrival from Sporting in January 2020. On the pitch, the night brought further frustration — United were beaten 4-1 by Como in the Champions League.
Following the final whistle, Fernandes publicly criticised the tactical approach of manager Michael Carrick. Despite the outspoken remarks, it is understood that Fernandes will retain the captain's armband and face no disciplinary action from the club.
