Bruno Fernandes Rejects Galatasaray Approach as Manchester United Captain Eyes Champions League Return

2 hours ago·2 min

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has reportedly rebuffed serious interest from Turkish champions Galatasaray, with the Portuguese midfielder determined to remain at Old Trafford and lead the club in the Champions League next season.

According to Turkish outlet TRT Spor, Galatasaray and manager Okan Buruk are keen to bolster their attacking midfield this summer and have identified Fernandes as their primary target. However, the 31-year-old is said to be firmly against leaving United.

"Galatasaray wants to strengthen its attacking midfield position during the summer transfer window. The biggest obstacle to overcome in the transfer is the 31-year-old player's unwillingness to leave Manchester United," TRT Spor reports.

Despite this, TRT Spor adds that Galatasaray's transfer officials plan to open talks with both United and Fernandes in the coming weeks — suggesting the Istanbul club have not abandoned hope entirely.

A season to remember

Fernandes' resolve comes on the back of the finest campaign of his United career. He won both the Premier League Player of the Year and the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year awards, and proved central to United's qualification for the Champions League after two successive seasons outside European competition.

His desire to remain is clear. The same hunger that led him to reject lucrative Saudi Pro League offers in January has now seen him dismiss Galatasaray's advances. TRT Spor notes that "the experienced footballer rejected astronomical offers from Saudi Arabian teams, just as he did in the January transfer window."

Contract countdown adds pressure

Despite Fernandes' commitment and United's reluctance to sell, the situation carries an underlying urgency. His contract at Old Trafford runs until the summer of 2027, leaving United with two windows — this one and next summer — to secure a transfer fee if they choose that path.

Should United allow Fernandes to run down his deal, he would become a free agent in 2028 at the age of 33, potentially attracting an even wider pool of suitors at that stage of his career.

For now, both player and club appear aligned: the Champions League is the focus, and Fernandes intends to captain the side through it.
