Burnley Rejected by Rob Edwards as Manager Search Continues

2 hours ago·1 min

Burnley's search for a new manager has suffered another setback after Rob Edwards turned down an approach from the club, leaving the Clarets without a head coach more than two months after Scott Parker's departure.

Edwards, who was sacked as Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach earlier this month in a surprise decision despite the club's backing, had been among the candidates considered for the Turf Moor role.

The 43-year-old had even been under consideration while Burnley were pursuing Craig Bellamy as Parker's replacement. That pursuit ultimately failed when Bellamy had a last-minute change of heart and chose to remain in his role with Wales.

Managerial search drags on

Parker left Burnley following the club's relegation from the Premier League, and the Lancashire side have now been without a permanent manager for over two months.

The situation grows more pressing by the day. Burnley's squad returned for pre-season fitness checks on Monday, and the club are scheduled to travel to the United States for a pre-season tour next month. Their first fixture — against FC Cincinnati — is set for 11 July.

Edwards had joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from Middlesbrough in November, tasked with stabilising the club and steering them back to the top flight. That project was cut short when he was replaced by Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto, despite the board having previously backed him through relegation from the Premier League.
