Burnley have formally contacted the Football Association of Wales (FAW) as they pursue Craig Bellamy to become their next head coach, following Scott Parker's exit by mutual consent in April.
No agreement has been reached, and any deal would require compensation negotiations between the Championship club and the FAW. Bellamy, 46, has two years remaining on a four-year contract with Wales — a deal that runs through to the end of Euro 2028.
Bellamy's ties to Burnley
Bellamy is no stranger to Turf Moor. He served as assistant to Vincent Kompany during Burnley's rise to the Premier League, helping the club clinch the 2022-23 Championship title with a remarkable 101 points. He was briefly named acting head coach following Kompany's departure to Bayern Munich in 2024 before later taking the Wales job.
His link to the club made him an early candidate as the Clarets began their hunt for a new manager — a search that began little more than a week after Burnley's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.
Bellamy's public commitment to Wales
As recently as June, Bellamy appeared to dismiss the prospect of leaving Wales. Speaking ahead of a 1-1 draw with Ghana in Cardiff on 2 June, he said he felt fully supported in his role and had no intention of walking away.
