CAF Maps Out Future With 2026–2030 Competition Calendar and Key Rule Changes

The Confédération Africaine de Football's Executive Committee, chaired by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, convened virtually on Friday, 2 October 2026 and delivered a series of consequential decisions covering African football's competitive landscape through the end of the decade.

A five-year roadmap for African football

The EXCO's headline approval was a unified CAF Competitions Calendar covering the 2026–2030 period. The calendar is designed to give member associations, clubs, and other stakeholders improved certainty when planning for continental competitions and events.

Nigeria to host CAF Awards and General Assembly

Nigeria will take centre stage on two landmark occasions. The CAF Awards 2026 ceremony is set for Lagos on Monday, 7 December 2026, while the CAF Ordinary General Assembly will be held in the country on Saturday, 21 November 2026.

Interclub competition regulations updated

The EXCO passed a set of amendments to the CAF Interclub Competitions Regulations that will reshape how clubs and players operate in continental club football.

On player registration, the rules now permit a player to appear for more than one club within the same CAF Interclub season. Each club is permitted a maximum of 40 registered players at any point in the season, with the added flexibility of replacing four players during the final registration window — provided those players have not featured in any CAF Interclub match during the campaign.

Disciplinary matters will also be handled differently going forward. All cases are to be referred directly to the Disciplinary Board, a move that removes the responsibility previously held by the Interclub Committee.

CAF Women's Champions League 2026 dates confirmed

The final competition stage of the CAF Women's Champions League 2026 will run from 1 to 15 November 2026, giving clubs and broadcasters clear dates for African women's club football's biggest prize.

Senegal to host Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations

Reigning champions Senegal will host the CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations 2026, with the tournament scheduled from 28 November to 6 December 2026.

The EXCO also received a briefing on preparations for the CAF Strategy Conference in Sal, Cabo Verde, due to take place between 7 and 9 October 2026.
